Two English ladies of “a certain age”, of the type that used to be known as “maiden aunts”, were relaxing in their Kenya farmhouse back in 1953. Suddenly, through the door came Neolithic torture, rape, and murder (not necessarily in that order). However, eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, and the dangerous dames proceeded to repel boarders like it was Day 2 at Rorke’s Drift.
I hope they sat down on the twitching bodies to have their tea and crumpets.
And in a final piece of symbolism, their bulldog gave his life for England.
(The fun begins at paragraph 7. Of course, this was a time when Brits were still allowed to pack heat.)
