The C-Step
A Crafty Method of Fading
© 2016 James LaFond
APR/26/16
When your man is entering, step away with a sliding C-pattern, with your rear foot drawing a C with the ball of the foot. The open end of this C would be the space covered by your right hand, the space you are inviting him into, your wheelhouse.
You will move along a diagonal line just like the fade but will end up in a position midway between the slide and the fade.
Against a good hooker use this instead of the slide step.
Against a man with a good, long right and excellent reset [Like Kovalov or Ali] use this instead of the fade.
Recall that the sliding rear foot drags the lead foot away as you jab on the highline, and that this will tire the quadriceps muscle. Resulting tightness in the knee can be addressed by stretching and massaging the calf muscle, which is also stressed by this motion.
If your man is quick enough this may accomplish as much with him as the U-hustle would with the kind of slower fighter it works on.
