A Watered Land
In Words: 1:15 P.M., 9/19/16 Flying over the Great Plains in Sunlit Cloud
© 2016 James LaFond
SEP/21/16
Rivers seen and unseen,
Streams swallowed by their fed green,
Wander the land—
A land painted brown, red, green and tan,
Traced in a grid of empty roads
As far as the eye can see,
Under the white-blue haze.
Crawling with interlinked snakes of green—
Ever widening,
Ever reaching,
Converging in a sprawling green immensity,
Distant, greening,
Reflective with the blinding, yellow-orange haze,
Crowning the distant land that failed to drink the sun.
-What seems to be the Missouri Watershed, suffused in cloud, from 34,000 feet
