Above the Gaping Gulf,

Where the Beginner Coiled,

Spread the Misty-Cloaked plane.

Where, of light devoid,

Among the unfurling mist,

A seething cauldron boiled.

In the Everdark:

Above the Cleft unguessed,

Where the Beginner slept,

Dreaming the Dream Undreamed,

Overflowed the Twelve Waters

From the cauldron that seethed,

Wandering in the dark, shrouded in mist.

Within the Morning Black:

Into the Abyss Unseen,

Where the Beginner yawned

In the throws of Dream

As Time Dawned—

Blasted to glacial ice,

The Twelve Waters plunged and groaned.
