Caught
In Its Siren Call
© 2017 Lili Hun
SEP/17/17
The ocean is a thing of beauty and power
And also heartless as it engulfs those
Who have gone astray in it...
It invites us into its mystery,
As we advance entranced
In answer to its Siren call…
Desirous of the calming waves,
The crashing of its rhythmic spume...
It mirrors the peace and passion
We feel in our beloved’s arms…
We believe we have come home,
Until caught disquieted
By the approaching tempest,
On a day like any other but not...
When we can do no more after
Endlessly struggling to stay atop
The unremitting waves,
The float thrown too thin for the task...
We are finally, weakly submerged in its depths,
Our adieu to a love we believed seaworthy…
